Summertime and the living is easy. But summer dressing…? It can be hard to find chic in the heat. I’ve always believed the whole point of a dress is simplicity and ease, and done well, it is a one-stop dressing solution. But if you’re looking for something that’s neither too sheer nor too short, more than a cover-up but less than a cover-all, the options narrow considerably.
My sister and I grew up summering at our aunt’s place in Cap d’Ail in the south of France so we knew just how hard it was to find clothes that were versatile enough to take us from beach to bar. Year on year, there would be the same gap in our wardrobes for clean, classic styles that would neither wilt nor date. We wanted dresses that we could wear browsing a street market in Ventimiglia and sipping sundowners on Plage Mala. We wanted gauzy but not sheer fabrics, tailoring that flattered but wasn’t stiff, styles with just enough peek and a little less boo.
Our grandmother was a big influence on us both. Always elegantly dressed, she introduced us to fine fabrics and one of my earliest childhood memories is of a beautiful dress that she gave me, made from softest seersucker with a pale blue stripe and a white cotton collar. I kept it for years, understanding even then that not all dresses are created equal.
My later career as a stylist and PR for luxury brands reinforced my conviction that quality is key and my own love of travel perpetuated the ongoing need for a curated travel wardrobe that was fitting for any destination.
Of the five styles in the debut collection, each one has been considered for versatility and elegance, refined into utmost simplicity, and lovingly finished with hand-made details and trims. There is nothing more there than you need, nothing less than you would want.
